Apple allows Messaging apps the freedom to run on your phone even when your are not using them. For example, you have your phone in the pocket but a Messaging apps can still run from time to time without you knowing and consuming battery.
iOS has different background modes (voip, location, …) that apps can request in order to gain this “background mode” / “run even when my phone is asleep” privilege.
Inspired by the TechCrunch post “Overrun With Messaging Apps” we looked at a number of different Messaging apps and created a list of Battery Friendly Messaging apps which only run when you actually use them.
